Systemic Candidiasis is an infection due to an overabundance of a natural yeast called Candida albicans.  Routinely held in check by the good bacteria in our bodies, under certain conditions the Candid albicans ‘overgrows’ into a fungal state which causes the Candidiasis infection.  Systemic Candidiasis usually starts in the abdominal tract and then spreads to other organs thru the blood vessels.

‘Systemic’ means “…affecting the entire body, or, a complete organism.” So endemic Candidiasis can describe a deep rooted infection in the intestinal tract, bloodstream, kidneys, liver, heart, esophagus, vagina, penis, mouth, eyes, or skin.

What Causes Candida Albicans to Overgrow?

There are many reasons why the bodies advantageous bacteria might not be able to control the Candida albicans, but one crucial one is the increasing use of antibiotics.  Other triggers are stuff like reduced immunological reaction, steroid overuse, underlying medical problems, recreational drugs, diabetes, hormonal contraceptives and stress.

Symptoms of Systemic Candidiasis

Vagina : Redness and inflammation, major itching, surprising white ( thick ) discharge, painful urination, distressing or impossible sex.

Mouth : Raised whitish spots on tongue and mucous surfaces, thick white coating on tongue, crack / fissures in tongue, dragon breath, difficulty swallowing.

Skin : Incisions, acne, rashes.

Main line Treatment for system-wide Candidiasis

Depending on the site of the infection, prescribed and over-the-counter medicine is usually in the shape of topical creams, pessaries, liquid formulations and capsules.  Occasionally injections are needed for especially deep rooted Candidiasis, e.g.  Systemic inner organ infections.

These antifungal medications are drug based.  Some which need to be taken internally or intravenously have some negative complications.  The topical ones shouldn’t be a difficulty unless you are sensitive to the drug itself.

Sadly, many women ( especially ) will have repeated attacks.  Two the things this has been put down to are ( one ) the treatment of the symptoms instead of the underlying cause ( s ), and, ( two ) the ability of the Candida allbicans to build a resistance to the drugs.  And these pharmaceutical based medications can be quite pricey.  So may folk are now looking to alternative drugs.
